Great photo's, thanks for sharing them. I fished the corresponding week at Crathie 7 years ago, in similar conditions. Although I blanked, I couldn't wait to go back!

Great pics. Does anyone ever stay dry there ? The wading looks suicidal.

Thanks guys.

The wading is shocking on all but 2 of the pools. I have at least one stumble / near miss every year and fell in properly in Boat Runs this year. I'm not sure how Archie keeps some of his older guests alive and coming back every year. (Although I did see an inflatable Crocodile and a pair of armbands in the hut one year. It might be better if he just kept a float tube tethered at the head of each pool and just let the angler down it on a rope.)

It does mean that if you have opposition on the far bank, chances are they will not have fished half the water because they struggle or can't be bothered to wade the difficult pools.

What a bunch of "whimps" I wade these pools in water 2 to 3
feet higher when it is coloured, you can't see your feet and without a wading stick. When you are as 'TALL' as me this is no mean feat!!! Thanks for the photos they are superb

Cracking photos Woburn and good to meet you last weekend, hope the journey south was painless. Still thinking about where I'll go on Saturday but I know it won't compare. Still that's what this game is all about.
Hope to see you again.

Where abouts is Buckets? I don't recall. Maybe Archie spared me the ordeal :-[

You are quite correct Rob. If I recall both your previous visits were at times of resonably
high water which prohibits fishing Buckets unless you are suicidal. For your reference they
are just above the Boat Runs and Boat Pool

This is my first posting, these pictures bring back memories of this year in May on Crathie.

On the Thursday when returning by car to the hut at Maclaren there was smoke visible drifting up from below the bank. I was with Archie. We thought one of our party was back early and brewing up a cuppa. Instead we found a barbie in full swing with 5 romany travellers and two french cars in the parking area. A large grill of half cooked chicken joints, lamb chops and other spicy delicacies was under preparation. Archie encouraged them not to stay! We finished our packed lunches in the hut, whilst outside our visitors took their time packing up. They left and it was soon time for me to get back into trying to catch my first salmon for the week. It was my turn to stay on Maclaren, starting at the top in the faster water I worked my way down and when my fly was immediately opposite the hut, exactly opposite where the romanys had their barbie, I was taken and twenty minutes later there was a fine 13lb salmon in the net.

So, was that co-incidence, the luck of the gypsy transferred temporarily to me, or the result of my casting and fishing skill???

I still cannot work it out.

Hello Puffin

Thank you for your first post; (as a fellow Dee Fuishier) a most excellent contribution to this forum. I look forward to more of your observations as and when.

Best wishes

It is magical,

February is the start see www.fishdee.co.uk for the details.

Usually in May the sun shines, the sky is blue, just as in these beautiful pictures.

This beat is like seventh heaven, but there can be some difficult wading as recounted elsewhere. I was in Buckets for the first time this year which I did not find that bad. Punt I find most awkward, and there have been one or two scary moments elsewhere. This year I had a ducking (my first) in Boat, where the wading is meant to be gentle.

A few years ago I caught my first salmon around midday, in bright sunshine, and with the temperature some 24 deg.C

I often have to ring home to get more sun tan oil !

When I get home I start counting the weeks until next year, at present only 29 weeks to go.
