hello everybody Could any one tell me when the next kielder release is and how big and for how long ? i would much apppreciate it. Fished today up at Hesleyside and Ridings on felling water, saw a few fish moving at daybreak nice clean salmon jumped just below belingham bridge as i was walking up. once the sun was up never seen a scale apart from brownies horrible gusty wind as well made casting interesting, still enjoyed being out and about tho
thankyou very much for that info springer. phone number very handy. Last season I used to look on riverdale hall hotel site, used to tell you on there when they would release but it never seems to be updated this season.
sorry took so long to get back to you been working in liverpool , Only just started fishing the felling water a couple of weeks ago it seems to be very varied so you probably find somewhere to fish at any height. Caught a seatrout on my first visit so that sort of makes you a bit more confident about the water. I would like to see it with abit more water in ( wouldnt everyone) probably get a better idea then. Quite alot of the water is the opposite bank to some of the riverdale hall hotel beats so that cant be to bad. How about you have you fished any of this water if so any tips would be much appreciated, or if any one on this forum has any advice how best to fish this water please reply. ps are there any members of felling ff on this forum , if so would like to hear from you, thanks
Fish it when the water is up and the nearer the end of the season the better - probably not a bad guide for the upper North Tyne. I like fishing the North in big waters, its generally when i have scored best.
Then just standard techniques really - red/gold allys is always worth a swim on a sink tip. Have fished all the Riverdale beats many times - i think you have water opposite Newton?
Thanks tyneandrew , yes we have water opposite bank of newton . I hear kielder is releasing 7cmps next week comencing on monday increasing to 15cmps next sunday. Never fished up there on a 15cmps release , how much will this affect the river level ?
;D Been up the north tyne this morning , Was chilly and very misty, fished the ridings beat on felling ff water . landed a 3lb sea trout took a size 10 cascade and also lost another bigger one , never saw a sign of a salmon up there tho, any one else had any luck with the salmon up there. No reports from riverdale on the net but surely people will be fishing the beats ?
I was out on the north tyne again today fishing above bellingham, the kielder release water had about ran off. there was a good few salmon jumping alot of well coloured ones but some big fish among them. tried for them with both fly and spinner but couldnt temt one, talking to some other anglers it was pretty much the same story below bellingham on ferryhill water. tho i did see one angler leaving with a clean salmon caught on spinner. anyone else do anygood ?
Went up the north tyne this morning river was up due to a Kielder release. plenty of salmon showing, hooked a salmon on a red and black flying c above belingham played it for a while but it got off as i was about to land it , it was a decent size 10lb plus but very coloured and would have been returned anyway. anyone else do anygood
No I didn't go that far down, I did speak to one angler who said there was plenty salmon down there also an army of anglers, somebody had a seatrout clean as a whistle. I do know that further up at the ridings pool someone had a grilse 6-7lb very clean on spinner, and just below one of similar size was caught on fly. I will make a point of giving the eals pool a go next time.
I fished the eels pool on the FFF water on Saturday from 1.00pm. Didn't see much for about an hour , then the Kielder release started to kick in and the place came alive! Missed two fish between the trees, then got a really fresh 10lber in the fast water - only problem being it was hooked in the back, so it obviously went back. Things then went a bit quiet - I'm sure the fish were there, but they weren't showing.
Hi Bulltrout. Nice to meet you too. Didn't have any luck - a bit disappointing given the water height and time of year. There didn't seem to be as many fish coming through as would have expected. Good luck for the next few days.
fished the eals this morning but had no luck tho i did see a few salmon, anyway decided to venture up to the ridings and have ago. on the way up i passed several anglers who had all caught fish one of them was actualy playing a salmon as i walked by the fish was landed and returned. decided to fish the head of the ridings pool on the left bank fishing a red allys shrimp size 4 on a floating line took a salmon of 8 1/2lb ;D. Fished on and connected with a big fish just as the light was fading reckon it must have been 15 plus, after a short fight it managed to escape never mind always tomoro.
Nice one, Bulltrout. I didn't stay long at the eels pool - didn't see a fish while I was there, and no reported catches - it's amazing how things can be different a few hundred yards up the river! I ended up on the Rede, where I had two Sea Trout and a Salmon of 6lb (all returned)
I think I will try the Rydings pool on Sunday - when you cross over the bridge, I take it you turn left? Is it Obvious after that (I've lost my map!)
Hi Magpie, If you drive over the bridge and turn left go past the hotel keep going till you go down a hill into open fields at the bottom of the hill there is a small layby next to agate you can park here . Go through the gate straight over the field towards where the electric cable crosses the river you will see the ridings pool, if you go to the edge of the trees that will be on your right there is a little path down along the river to get access to fish you can also get to petes hole if you follow it up, Tight lines ps. where abouts did you get the fish on the rede, and well done
Cheers, Bulltrout. I was fishing the Cliff pool (I think!) on the Rede. Thought it might have been too dirty, but I got the shock of my life when the first fish took my flying c as I was about to lift it out the water. I always find that when you are fishing a small river, it initially makes the fish look much bigger!
Just trying to shake off my hang over, today and I'll be out after them! Tight lines.
