Hello all, how good a rod is a Daiwa Amorphous Whisker. The model is AWF 14 Osprey salmon allround and is rated 9/10. I have recently aquired this rod and would like advise on correct line setup and its capability. Thanks!

Hello Salmo, You have made a very good choice! I use my 14' one more than any of my other rods and love it dearly. In fact I recently bid for another(unsuccessfully) on Ebay, just in case I ever break mine. For floating lines I use the Michael Evans 9/11 (sometimes with an intermediate or slow sinking braided leader) and for sinking work I use a Rio Windcutter 9/11 multi tip with the new 'compensator' mid section, which is a great improvement over the previous version, though Willie Gunn will probably disagree! The earlier model had a sliding ring reel fitting, which could work loose, leading to some exciting moments when playing a fish. I used to put a bit of tape on this fitting, but I now use a heavy duty rubber band, doubled over several times, which I roll down the handle to 'lock' the upper fitting and this seems to work quite well. The Mark 2 version has a screw reel fitting. Whilst somewhat slow, by today's standards, the action of these rods is both powerful and extremely forgiving in terms of a slight error in either power or timing, but don't expect it to cope with heavy brass tubes on a fast sinker.
