I was given the address for this forum from a guy called clydebuilt on the flyfishing forum....he told me it was an excellent place to get advice on Salmon fishing from experts! Here is the post i had put on the fly-fishing forum..... any ideas are greatfully received! John. Hello all...as you may know from my previous introductory post im getting into Salmon fishing and have just purchased a Daiwa whisker 12ft Salmon rod..... it may not be up to much??? anyone used one?? but im on a budget! Im looking at a couple of reels and fly lines. The rod is rated 8/9 and im looking at an almost new Shakespeare Beaulite salmon reel?? anyone used one? are they okay for a beginner on a budget? As for a fly line...WF Hardy Mach1??? any good?? Ive got the choice of floater, sink tip and wet cell2 ....... or how about a Cortland 444sl Spey line WF9F....... ...or a Spey type III Orvis Wonderline advantage WF9F longhead? any advice duely taken!! Can i use a "Spey"line on a 12ft 8/9 Daiwa whisker?? or will the rod not be up to the job? thanks all, John

hi john,
you are in the right place. have a browse around previous threads and you will see lots of rod and line info.
ill leave it to others to advise you on the best products
as far as rods go, its horses for courses- which means you will probably need more than one rod.
your 12ft is fine for summer and spate river fishing and you can use a spey line with it if you wish- so long as it matches the rod.
