finally received the new oricle iv, thank's to frank, at turriff tackle, £2 cheaper than j,norris as well. also, gordon spey line. frank sent it tues, so from aberdeen down to linc's, not bad really. i'm not an expert on salmon rods, but for the price, i am very pleased.... a friend, told me to-day, that T&S did a survey, of spey lines, in the march edition, and the i. gordon came out on top.. can't wait to try it out..................gavan.........

I have been using the 14' Oracle IV during the 2005 season. I would make the following observations.
The 4 piece construction is very useful.
The joints dont tend to twist when Spey casting, even if untaped.
The varnish at the joints has come away to some degree. Will use amalgamating tape in future.
I have been using the rod with a 10/11 RIO windcutter & it can handle the sinking tips with a tube fly.
The reel seat will take virtually any size of reel !!!
The handle is very slim and of good quality, the blank looks similar to Sage.
The rod has a fairly forgiving action and I can easily use it all day with ease.
I am going to purchase the 15' when the boss allows.
I caught 4 salmon one Saturday in late October on my local spate river the Ugie and accounted for 22 salmon in 2005 season with the rod.

thanks for the report! Im looking forward to getting my Oracle.... it will be a first step into salmon fishing.... and i will no-doubt up-grade! But from what i have heard it is a good rod! One fish in a season would do me!..... infact two would be nice!! I've not even caught my first... but im thinking i'll let it go as a mark of respect??? will that make it keener to take my fly!!??!! knowing that im going to let it go! Doubt it!.... sod's law i'll catch first day... let it go and blank the season! haha
