Can anyone tell me of a source of information as to which size double hooks should be used with what size of tube?

Looking at Graham's reply, it hits home that using numbers to determine hook sizes is becoming an impossible task without offering an almost scientific answer. Numbers are introduced to such things to make selection easy, but as hook manufacturers have stopped following the script it becomes difficult. I know plenty of anglers who no longer state a numerical hook size when talking about what fly to fish, they'll only say small, medium or large. The main criterea for tubes is to select a hook that looks correct for the fly. If it looks correct, then it probably is correct. Within reason, there is no right and wrong.

Thanks for that information, gentlemen. Does the colour of the metal matter? I see some are being offered in black, gold or silver.

I don't think that as a general rule the colour matters much, but it may look better if it is in harmony with the dressing of the tube. I don't give it much consideration.

Talking about Tube hooks I've just sent away and bought some Turrall trebles made by Redditch.(Chemically sharpened and centreless -ground-High carbon nickle chrome)
Has anyone used these kind of treble hooks and if so what did you think of them. Because they look very light-weight to my eye's and being new to Salmon flyfishing and not ever used Tube flys before I would like to make sure before I use them.

I'd go into a good tackle shop and look at their tubes - then just judge everything by eye - sizes nowadays seem to vary so much between manufacturers - and the length of tube body/extension comes into it.
