Anybody out there have any views on the Hardy Sirrus 15`rod ? Is it suitable for an intermediate fisher looking for a good quality general purpose spring/autumn spey caster? How does it compare with a Norway or Powerlite? What are the best lines to try?

I'm not a very experienced salmon fisherman, and am no expert on rods so I may not be the best person to advise you. I ended up getting a 15' Sirrus for a very good price before the price jump by Hardy about a year ago. I am very happy with it and have used it for both Spring and Autumn fishing. It casts well and is easy to use (although my own spey casting needs much improvement -not the rod's fault!). It controls fish well, although I have never had any very large ones on it.
I use it with an Airflo Mid-spey 10/11 multi-tips, which seems to be perfect with it. I also use it with a 9/10/11 Rio Windcutter for smaller rivers which casts well, (although I'd be better off with a smaller rod).
However, at almost 600 quid, I wouldn't buy it now as it seems extortionately expensive, especially considering the RRP a year or so ago was £399 and you could sometimes get it for a bit less.
It is however a very good rod, and everyone who knows about rods who has tried mine tell me how well it casts.
Hope this is of help

Hi Leo, Thanks for your reply. I did not realise there had been such a large price increase so recently. I wonder why? I am pleased to hear you like the Sirrus but as you say at that price!. I will have a look at the other options.
