How much line do you cut off the ig floaters to help turn over polyleaders?

This is nothing more than idle curiosity.
After much deliberation I recently purchased a IG intermediate and a floater. I could not get both from the one dealer due to the shortage of certain IG lines. Frank, a member on this forum came up trumps, when I could not get the floater from my local tackle dealer he managed to supplied me.... thanks Frank.
Now my question..... On one tin it read Partridge IG Spey etc and on the other Shakespeare IG Spey etc. What is the tie up between Shakespeare and Partridge ? I went on the Shakespeare site and sure enough they have IG lines. Is this a merger I have failed to notice ?
Cheers,
Jock
PS there appears to be lot of tackle dealers out there who have been waiting months for back orders on IG lines.

Shakespeare manufacture and market the Partridge brand under licence from Mustad who own Partridge.
As to stock- factory is working 24 hrs to produce all the fly lines they manufacture for several other well known brands. Two new machines have just been installed to solely produce I G lines which will give better quality control over the drying of lines.

Do you need to cut them back all of 12 feet to get a good turnover?
Does the cutback length depend on what density Polytip you are going to use,(Extra Super Fast Sink or Slow Sinks etc)?
Seems a bit drastic on a £45 line!!
But if it works............ Cp

I've only used my IG floater with smaller flies, up to size 8 trebles, and a 10' polyleader turns over reasonably well, without any cutting back. A 5' polyleader turns over easily.
I guess (Graham or WG might know) that cutting back helps with heavier tubes, but cutting back by 12' will surely spoil the line as a full floater?

I make my own polyleaders from an old ultra fast sinking wetcell iv. The thin line turns over easily with my IG 11/12 . I only really have a problem when I'm pushing to the limit of my casting ability. However I have never cast anything heavy like a brass tube with polyleaders. These can be difficult enough to cast so I always use these with whatever full line I think I need for the conditions and a short nylon leader.
While I have made a full range of these home made leaders I tend to only use a 3' or 6' after that I tend to go for a full intermediate depending on the conditions.
I would advise you try out various combinations and only cut your line as a last resort.
