Could someone please tell me a good way to splice a shooting head and running line toegether

If they have cores, strip off the plstic then whip the core together, varnish then cover in Aquaseal till the corect diameter

or just tie loops in the core line and use loop to loop connections (I guess you were already doing that before)

If you are using mono backing,firstly cut the mono backing to a point,then slowly work a needle up the center of the fly line through the Dacron core too for about 1",then heat the needle gently and steadily with a lighter until the plastic coating retains the hole made by the needle,remove before the plastic sets and allow to cool.Then pass the mono up through the hole and tie a nail knot in the mono onto the fly line as neat as you can,apply a touch of waterproof super glue as sealer to the knot and trim neatly,if you are really neat whip over the join and apply a touch of Aquasure.Done properly this join is as secure as it gets,passes neatly thro. the rod rings etc., it will join any fly line to backing apart from some Airflo lines (ones with mono cores or multi filament cores aren't suitable so don't try ),as with any join a quick once over every once in a while wont hurt.

If they have cores, strip off the plstic then whip the core together, varnish then cover in Aquaseal till the corect diameter Might also be a good idea to put a few stitches through the cores before you whip them together for a little extre security, although aquaseal is pretty strong stuff and should hold regardless of whether they're stitched together or not.
