Everybody and there dog seems to use floating line polytip combo and not many people using intermediate line.Has one got the edge on the other or is there certain water conditions where one line will outfish another.Think i read a ally gowans article on this few years back but cant remember what it was about think one fished slower than the other

Wait until you try an intermediate with a polytip! There's no end to the combinations you can have!

Use an intermediate in a strong wind for ease of casting or in shallow water when the temp. drops in spring/autumn (instead of a wet 2etc.),use poly/multi tips in warmer water, falling river or where you wish to exercise greater control(mending) over your fly.Use the intermediate in broad streams where you wish to find then hold depth right round to your own bank, use poly/multi tips when you wish to gain depth quick at the limit of your cast, deep er channels, holes, runs, etc.,the poly/multi tip presentation will lift your fly in a strong stream as your line/fly is swept below you long before you get to the dangle, especially with a bulky hackled fly (allys etc.).In my opinion you need both/all lines and pick which is right for the conditions on the day.
