Noted a reference to the above rod in one of the other UK fly boards. What (especially) caught my attention was the length of this rod, and only rated for a 5-7 line weight.
Possible for someone to direct me to where I can get some info on this specific rod? Goggle only gave me 'one hit' on one sold at auction.
Many thanks in advance,
Fred

Fred, these rods are very slow indeed with not a lot in the way of backbone, they are intended for low water very fine presentation for grilse,in fact they are very specialized indeed and as such are hard to come by.A better rod by far is the newer Powerlite 7/9# it has more back bone, casts better in the wind(the grilse wont) and will cope with bigger fish.Worth considering if you can find them are the Falkus Hexograph 15ft light line 7# and the Merlin 16ft 7/9# both are really great for fine presentation with small flies/light tippets with grilse sized fish but retain enough in the way of a spine to deal with bigger sized fish than the grilse is capable of,like the grilse they are only available second hand, the grilse also came as a 12ft jobbie which is a bit more steely than its 15ft stablemate. In short if you have a need for a rod such as the grilse not much else will match it (not at the price) indeed if you can find anything. Pedro.

there is one on ebay.co.uk at the moment fred Just back from Washington State; fishing the Cowlitz ... ZERO for 4. Can you give me a web link to the auction? Many thanks in advance. Fred Forgot to add: did an e mail exchange with the folks at B and W. Rod is no longer in production .. but they will build me one for about $1,200 USD. Bit out of my price range at the moment ... heading to two different 'spey days' (end of September and end of October) so one never knows "when he will fall in love."

Fred, good to see you back! Harry Jamieson of Clan rods (http://www.clanrods.com/) used to do a series of light line long rods specifically for grilse fishing in low water on large rivers. I still have a 17' no7/8 'reverse taper' one of his. It would throw a very delicate long line, but anything over 10lbs and it felt as if the fish was playing you!
