Anyone have first hand knowlege of these reels some going for good prices on ebay just now.

i have used a size 12 tioga for some time - nice reel, reliable drag, but the 12 is not very large - and the 12 LA will only take a 10/11 spey line with no backing so stick with the standard spool - they are excellent value but the aluminium is a bit soft - a small drop can result in a large ding. The standard spool holds about 100-150 yards of 30lb dacron and a 10/11 wt ian gordon floater. They are a lot smaller than a system 2 size 12/13 for example

When I was a tackle seller for the O Reilly,we sold these ,had more come back with minor problems than anything else we sold ,mainly screws unscrewing on the drag mechanism .
having said that with a little loctite I would happilly use one for lighter lines !
