Can anyone explain the various permutations in the Alltmor rod range? About 7 years ago I used to have an Alltmor S 15' 3-piece (dark greyish/purple blank), I now have as a back-up an Alltmor S 14' Spey Casting Special (4-piece) - I also see there is an Alltmor Spey range in a burgundy blank.
I cast someone else's Alltmor Spey the other day and it is significantly different in action (more through) than the one labelled 'Spey Casting Special' - very nice in fact and threw an effortless line.
Can anyone give more information?

dunbar, The Alltmor in the purple blank is the one that you should have held on to. These were the older design and performed very well. The black blank, burgundy whippings "spey casting special" is a good casting tool, but takes a bit of practice to get used to the stiffer butt sections. These were also very prone to breakages - I've broken mine , and know a good few anglers who suffered the same. The next range was the burgundy blank, green whippings range. I've tried a few of these and find them to have a more comfortable action than the "spey casting special". I've not heard of any breaking either. Hope this helps.

Good question dunbar. I am also confused by the Altmor. There is also an Altmor Orator, how does this one fit into the range?

From memory the Orator was the 3 piece version and designed I think, more for overhead casting, although others may know better.
Fruin, my 14' Alltmor speycaster broke 3 times. Now confined to being a spare in the event of all my other rods breaking.

Fruin, my breakages were in the sections themselves, top section once and second, twice. I know what your talking about regarding the joints, I used to mark with a permanent marker to show where the section was correctly inserted without pushing it too far or too short, then tape joint. I did this after it took me 2days to separate rod sections after a fishing trip. I complained to Daiwa about their superflex joint. In the next model they were gone, so they must have a lot of problems.

Thanks all - that clears that up. Looks like I had better watch the joins.

i use an Orator. while its a great rod ive also broken it twice. Mine is a 4 piece 15', recently became a 5 piece. First break was in the joint, second was the blank. Fair play to daiwa though, they were quick to replace.
