Can anyone advise on the best type of rod holder for cars? - vacuum or magnetic, and what brands might be better than others?
many thanks.

Whichever type you use, make sure you tie both holders to the vehicle in case the suction/magnetism fails. The front one is no problem, and the roof one can be secured to roof rails if you have them. If you don't have roof rails, then tie your cord to the holder, drape the cord through the window, close it to trap the cord and all will be fine. Alternatively, just shut the door on the cord. If the holder fails, then at least the rods are held on even if they are flapping about: better than them falling off and the tips dragging on the road.
