I have just bought one of these rods(Le Cie) and was wondering if you guys that are fishing the power tapers are cutting them or fishing them full length?? Hi HSM I'm fishing the full 13.5 m on my 14ft 8 Le Cies and Grey Line 15ft so I wouldn't cut back with the 15ft 9 just yet. Try it out the box with a 10ft polyleader then cut gradually. You really go from a short headed spey line to a bona fide shooting head but go carefully and watch your casting action as you shorten the head speeding up and with more underhand the shorter the head gets. Finally you probably want to cut down the UFS to a shorter length such as 12m as you can lift them straight out and recast cheers Splash

As a matter of interest which polyleaders do you find fish correctly for the different sink rates S1/2 Etc. Cheers

Cheers In general, tend to match the sink rate with the head but you can make some good sink tip combos such as the intermediate head with a type III tip. CD uses the 12.5m Loop heads with a 15ft type III tip from a midspey in this way. If you feel the 10ft poyleaders are making the head too difficult to handle shorten down to 5ft first before cutting back the head. Its amazing how a little bit of tinkering around with your set up can change how effectively you cast

I have the 15'9 le cie. It is a good rod but in my opinion its main trick is the overhead cast- It can cast a power taper a mile overhead. I was fishing recently, wading calf deep and I honestly reckon i was throwing nearly 40 metres of running line as well as the 12.5m sink 3/4 head.
For spey casting this long and very powerful rod I would definitely recommend a 10ft polytip- But then I have my powertapers cut too short ( with hindsight!) at 12.5m.
Cheers, Simon

It is for mainly overhead casting i have bought it for . So you dont use polyleaders when overhead casting i assume?? Cheers

No, unless you want to fine tune the fishing depth they will overhead cast just fine without the tip.
PS My Powertaper DC lines all came at a consistent 13.25m out of the box.
Cheers, Simon

Well, received mine today from Frank and could not resist trying it out on my loch this afternoon. First impressions......a superb rod. I tried a variety of lines all set up with a 5' fast sink polyleader, 10' of nylon and fly. First up was an 11/12 IG 75' floater. This did not overpower the rod at all and I managed 40yds while up past my nuts. Changed to a 10/11 superfast sink (12cm/sec)Lochmor spey line which has a 68'' head from memory. Now I was casting on a loch so the line went down like a stone, but with a roll cast followed by a spey I was coping easily with 35 yard casts, albeit with a splash on landing, but this is more to do with the line I think. Next was a 9/10 65' Delta spey. It really liked this, even although I could tell it was a bit on the light side. Again 40yds with ease. This combination also christened the rod with a nice 1lb trout Finally I tried a 8/9 1D snowbee (51' head). Yes, too light but it still coped and I even tried overhead with this and got around 30 yards. Forgeting about distance, it is a very light rod with reserves of power and will be my big river rod of choice even when I'm only looking at casting 20yards+ No regrets about buying this, although it is obviously a right shoulder rod....it was not as good of the left Cheers, Jock PS It's snake rolls were not that good either

Interesting to hear the feedback on this rod. Gasp,as an owner of a number of sage rods i am thinking about acquiring some of these rods. The 9/10 LeCie (14 1/2 ft)was pinging out my 9/10 loop quattro a long way with no effort and the 10/11 Le Cie again (14 1/2 foot) was pinging out my monteith multi tipline with no effort at all.Now this is what I liked about them,i mean really liked, there is no need to force them and the cast goes the country mile. But would these rods suffice or woud i need to make up a triumvirate gents with the LeCie15 1/2 footer? what is required for sunk lines and tubes for early season.I know they are a bit squeeky when starting to fish but I could persuade my self that the rod is trying to talk to me and say "good morning"

I was struck on how beautifully balanced this combo was and again by the effortless nature of casting. The Bill Drury Multitip 62ft head is another good match. Looking fwd to picking up my 15ft 9 from Frank at TT shortly . Incidentally, the squeaking seems to be due to the titanium nitrided rings and does tend to go away quickly once the line is wet

I'm thinking of buying a le Cie 15'9" and have noticed that Sportfish are selling for £477 while WROC are only (?) asking £383. What is the going rate? I'd rather not deal with the ROC again.....
