Is this reel any use - anyone using one? It retails for approximately £90 - is it worth it?

Sloggie, I have a gtx 9/11,the reason i bought this reel was the spare spools,(even though they are plastic) i believe this just about makes it worth buying.....the reel itself isn't all that great the drag is a bit sluggish,I'm sure there are better buys out there, it looks ok i suppose, but I'm not 100% about it ....my drag seems to work the one way only where i prefer a drag pulling as well as winding, maybe this can be adjusted i don't know.

I was warned off the GTX as the drag was "made of putty"

If this is the case then it sounds like the reel is set up for use with the wrong hand. I don't own one but I think this reel uses a one-way roller bearing and this has to be slid out, turned end over end and replaced to change it's direction of operation. You should have virtually no drag at all when winding but a fully adjustable range when line is pulled from the reel. Dave.

If you can wait have a look at the new Endurance reel from Cortland.
The cage and drag is a Koma and the cassettes are interchangeable so the reel is capable of taking a 7/8 spool or a 9/10 spool. There looked on the prototype- to be plenty room for a spey line on the large spool. RRP will be 59.95GBP and the spools only 2.95GBP
