Lo lads,
Was looking at the above mentioned Orvis Mach VI reel at the weekend and quite liked it really.
Do any of you own/use one?
I was wondering about its backing capacity with a 65' Ian Gordon line? Any ideas ?
I had a look on the Orvis website but it looks as though it only rates WF lines.

I have a Shakespeare Trion Salmon Reel - excellent drag and takes an Ian Gordon 11/12 with 100m backing - reel cost £60 - you will pay a lot more for the Orvis, which although a fine reel, is not 2/3 times better than the Trion.

Thanks for the suggestion beanieboy, i am familiar with the Trion's. The President is also on the shortlist but there was something i really liked about the Orvis hence the capacity question. Its to balance a 16ft Norway so i dont need an uber light reel.

Hello there clyde
My pal fishes with the Mach VI with a windcutter and gets an incredible amount of backing on his reel, looks like it will manage any speyline plus plenty.

Cheers Johnny, just what I was after, I knew it looked a decent size but you can never just tell by looking...well I can't

As mentioned above, plenty space on the Mach VI - nice smooth reels, good drag, (although my friend commented that it looked like a hose reel) - quite large reel (though light). I've got 300 yards Orvis 30lb on mine with a Scierra multi-tip.
My only complaint is the drag adjustment knob feels quite flimsy, and is the same on my Mach IV too. Don't know if you noticed, but Harris Sportmail are doing them for £160.
