£589 for a pair of waders? someone at Simms is having a laugh but it wont be at my expense!

No they don't have a sense of humor just a bloody cheek. How can the addition of a zip add £200 to the already ridiculous price of the G3 waders?
Definitely paying for the name in my view, they might cost 3 times the price of an average pair but a gorse bush will still turn them into a pin cushion

At that price, a fool and their money are easily parted.
I have just bought a pair of brand new 2006 model Simms Classic Guide waders (the discontinued, but apparently their best ones) for £107 from over the pond. Even with P&P, vat and customs I reckon that's a great deal. Who cares if they don't have a zip - just another thing to go wrong IMO.

This product is probably the best example of what anglers have allowed the marketing departments of various kit manufacturers do to them for years- extract cash for the sake of image. Steve I'm surprised you haven't got some then Steve. ;D ;D ;D
