These rods seem to have been passed by in the rush for Partridge, Vision and Guideline.
Surely somebody has had a cast? What were there opinions.

Ive heard the altmore is suspect to breaking? Hear it again. I always found Daiwa rods excellent until I purchased a 14' Altmor Spey.......broke 3 times, top once, second top section twice. I won't be in a hurry to buy Daiwa rods again unless I start hearing good reports.

I have a 15' and have had a few days with the 14'.
I think they are brilliant. Light touch, bags of power.

Thanks Ross
Steve is right. Everybody will say- ahh Scott Mackenzie rods" nice" and then buy something else.
They must be more than up to the job and you would think that in this day of wanting to cast to the horizon- what better a rod to buy than endorsed/designed by the horizon master himself !!

The 14ftr - brilliant, the 15ftr - didn't notice much difference than the Alltmor 15'6" I currently use, the 16ftr - brilliant.
Scott, I understand prefers the 14ftr - fish with him in Sept - a privelage watching him.
Seriously worth trying these rods, each to their own though.

frank, i think you are miscasting the rod, but perhaps its the marketing and the pic of scott casting. I promise its a real treat to fish with.

Owned loads of Diawa rods of all types and every one has been just great except the only Salmon rod of theirs I bought a 17ft Amorphous, broke 3 on the trot despite Diawas and Dave Bells best efforts at customer relations.Never could understand why a Japanese firm puts a union jack on their kit or a thistle for that matter, why not own up to being Japanese, maybe that goes part of the way explaining why they are never top sellers.

Rennie, Maybe the Thistle because they are made in Motherwell? I know three people who have had breakages with the 15' Altmors, though the only time I tried one I liked it. I have been using my 16' and 14' Amorphous Whiskers for years and hope to continue to do so for many more. Good value for money and perfect rods for those whose timing is sometimes a wee bit less than perfect!

All of the Daiwa salmon rods (apart from the wilderness, I think) are made at the factory in Motherwell. As for the S Mac K rods, I've tried the 14 and 15 and found them both to be excellent fishing rods. GC

I had a wee throw of Richards Daiwa signature 15' on Monday and think it's a belter of a powerhouse, bends smoothly on moderate casts and when going a bit longer seems to have a powerband further down for bigger launches.
I offered to relieve him of the rod for hard cash money but he didn't bite!

Ceilidh, sorry but assembled in Motherwell by a Scottish workforce for a Japanese company who take the profit back to home ground, know loads of other company's do this too and I certainly don't have any gripe over using Diawa gear because of this I just feel they should be honest about it or at least omit the union jack and thistle.By the way funny how Salmon/Trout fishing gear comes with the thistle and coarse gear the union jack, all "made" assembled in the same place. Some marketing exec. making their living I suppose,oh well.
