If £350 was the budget, which 15' rod would you buy? Guideline, B&W, Greys...

I would go for a B+W Norway because it's so versatile.

Ian Gordon 10/11 for floating line, sinktips etc. or the 11/12 if you want a rod with a bit more beef.

Like Springer for the money the Snowbee with matching lines is, for my mind, very good value indeed. I might also add the "The Don" referred to elsewhere on this Forum tells me he fishes with nothing else.
But not to sound too mysterious, I had a conversation with a tester for certain rods recently who assured me of the imminent arrival of a new rod with what he described as startling capabilities at less that £100. We shall have to wait and see...

splash. I have tried most of the Guideline rods and at the moment my mate has the 14' 8" le cie 10/11 fast, for shooting heads, takes a bit of getting used too. But i'm happy with what i've got. The one below mine is the APX 15'0", 10/11,4piece £349, IN the T & S april 2006 this rod came third in a test and the thing that let it down was the handle, even though its longer than a Guideline, it beat Guideline too, and loomis was last of all. The winner was Fulling Mill 6piece, and Daiwa Wilderness,APX, Hardy Gem 11,Le Cie,IG,Shakey invicta spey,T &T DH1511. The testers were,G.Sutherland, K.Mcdonald,G.Mckenzie.......!

I noticed on that rod test in T & S they had the lecie but not an lpxe that was first in the previous T&S 15'rod test. I wonder how it would have faired in that test.
For a 15 footer for under £350 my money would go on an lpxe or the Ian Gordon fast spey.
Cheers Simmo

He was telling me that the 5 peice T&T 14ft was the best rod in the world last September! [/quote] Oi! I must admit that I have had great fun with a 14' T&T and a shooting head during one week a couple of years ago, but in all fairness Splash a) can you get it for £350 and b) did I say it was, in my opinion, the best? I never bought one!

try a Fulling Mill 6 piece: I got one because of travelling from France, where I live, & I can tell you it is just as good ( if a liitle heavier) than my Sage 15' 1"!!! Bleive me; the best for (I think at present) £280 odd.

Bleive me; the best for (I think at present) £280 odd. Never tried the Fulling Mill but it got a good write up in T&S. I saw one in Farlowes yesterday at £249 and I think that you can pick them up for £199. My impression looking at the rod was how big it looked. The butt has a very large diameter and that may have contributed to it. I find the Sage European 15ft 1 to be a heavy rod which may be due to its particular balance, so would be interested in how the FM handled with an appropriately matched reel cheers Splash
