Hi guys, Looking to get a marquis but was wondering if the no 2 was large enough for a Carron 10/11 and the appropriate amount of backing?Or should I carry on looking for a no3?Any advice much appreciated, Regards Ian

I have the marquis no 2 and it holds a 10/11 speyline with plenty of gelspun backing.

Ian,
I have a raft of #3s which can take stacks of dacron and still hold a Carron 85 ft head hawswer whereas my #2's are for sinking lines that are thinner and a 65ft Lee Wulf ST9F that doesn't leave much space for backing.Saying that buying Vosselers for the new army of sinkers and shooting heads.
IMO it depends whether you are going to go for gelspun or Dacron but as I've been run raggged by a couple of unexpected big fish that tok lost of line from me in the past and I don't like gelspun,I'd see if you can get a #3.It will hold the line and miles of dacron, has a quick retrieve as its almost the original/accidental large arbour and if you don't like it it will always command decent money.
When Andy Murray announced the who was using what reel ahead of the final of the Tweed casting competition last year nearly all of the Carron lads were using Marquis #3s.
Plus they let the adjoining beat know you are into a fish with that ack ack gun click check-must down load a sample for moents in I-pod land when even the Zeppelin won't do.
