I'm curious as to why we don't hear much about Sharpes salmon rods? My old man got a 13footer last year and it is an absolute dream to cast with (so i think anyway). I liked it so much, i fished with it more than my own last season (til i got the LPXe). Wondering if anyone has any theories as to why these rods don't seem to be so popular? I know their trout rods took the place by storm (i have one myself)

My 14 year-old son uses the 13' Sharpes The Gordon with a bog standard DT10. He casts a lovely line with that set-up.

I don't know to be honest. I liked the Aquarex 15 footer hugely (might try and get my hands on one) but haven't tried the newest models.
I didn't like the Trout 'Gordon' (probably about the only person on the planet who didn't ) as, for the money, other rods did the same job better IMHO.
A great shame it's no longer Sharpes of Aberdeen (or indeed Aberdeenshire ) perhaps we will hear more of Sharpes one they've re-grouped some more

I've heard really good reports on the Aquarex 13' #8/9. I believe they updated it latterly to a rating of 9/10.

Does anyone have one of these, if so which is the best line rating?

Anyone also used the 16' Aquarex #11/12?

Interesting comment, Andrew has the 15' and I have tried it a few times and found it to be a very nice floating line/small fly summer rod.

This just underlines the fact that rod qualities are very subjective. What suits one, may not suit another, whether that be action, weight, cosmetics, image, price - you name it.
