I think we are now big enough to begin our own awards So to begin with, we have the prestigious Rod Awards The categories are: 1) Rod of the Year (no time limit - personal experiences and tastes are only limits) 2) Newcomer of the Year (as there's no previous awards, can be within the last 2 years) 3) Rod Maker of the Year Most votes get the award...closing date is 30th June 2007. Only one vote per category per User. My votes are: 1) Hardy Gem MkII - got one; love it 2) Greys Greflex - combination of quality & value unsurpassed 3) Partridge - latest series of rods are eye-opening Hopefuly someone will pick up the theme for reels, line, and other tackle...

Guideline seem to be giving evereyone a run for their money - their rods are very impressive as are their lines. Have also heard good things about their reels - also seem to be on the ball regarding their clothing range. Hard to fault them.

I really don't have that much experience here to add anything of great value in catagory 1 and 3 but for my tuppence worth I would like to nominate the Hardy Swift Mark 11 (16 foot) as Newcomer of the year. Its a great rod and has added yards to my casting while improving my presentation.
Also caught my first salmon on it and it has improved my confidence no end.... I now look forward to casting whereas before I was always dreading the whole lot thumping into the river at my feet.....

Aye and to make it a valid poll all voters must have compared their choice to at least, say six of same spec products and not just a quick flick either . This will probably reduce the franchised to around 50 ? Steve I'll take this one as a spoilt ballot paper As far as I'm concerned members are free to vote or not on whatever basis they see fit.

Partridge 13 ' Oracle IV 15 '
and rod maker of the year- Shakespeare for the Partridge, Oracle and Odyssey.
If you add Trion and President reels to that list of brands they wipe the floor with everybody. Again excellent products at reasonable prices.
For the future and your information the umbrella group that owns Shakespeare has bought Pure Fishing. That stable includes Berkley, Abu, Stren, and Fenwick.

Z,
Do Carron make fly rods..??
I was led to believe that B&W make them on their behalf.
Haven't tried a Carron rod but if they have a better build than a B&W and perform as well as their fly lines then they would be tough to beat.
From what I've heard the Carron rod ain't chep either..!!!
My tuppence worth
1 - B&W 16ft 9/10 2 - Guideline LPXE 14ft 9/10 3 - B&W for build quality and superb after care service.

SAY Hi SAY, That is correct as far as I know, made by B & W. I think they perform as well as their fly lines, which are superb. I've never cast a better rod. A number of different rod brands are made or have been made at the same facilities. Especially the offshore stuff. Same goes for lines. z
