Bit of an anorak I know but from my trout fishing days onward. I've always been meticulous about keeping my fly lines in tip top condition and clean them after every trip. I take them of the reel rinse them in a mild soap solution, rinse , dry them and then clean with a silicon based car upholstery cleaner such as Armor-all or Son of a Gun which you can now even get in pre-treated wipes and finally buff them up to a high polish with a soft cloth. Note floaters only - if you do this with sinkers they will turn into floaters Its amazing how much crud comes of a line with cleaning and if you take care of lines in this way they will last for years. I'm a bit leery of giving the Son of a Gun treatment to the newer polymer coated (as opposed to PVC) made by Airflo (eg their own Delta Spey, Monteith, Guideline Bill Drury Impact, Power tapers etc and wondered if anyone had any experience or recommendations for cleaning them. Airflo had something called Turbo Shoot a few years back which was quite good if a tad expensive but it doesn't seem to be so readily available these days as far as I can see. Given the usual Airflo hype I'm sure that there is something that does the job thats used for other applications. Any recommendations anyone? cheers Splash

Splash,
I can't claim to be as disciplined myself, possibly once during the season before the Autumn rains (if they arrive before the end of the season)
I do all my fly lines in one hit filling the bath with warm water and adding non bio washing powder. Judging by the state of the water afterwards, it seems to clean the lines very well and I haven't noticed any side effects on any of my lines.
I suppose you could mix some of this up and put it into a container for cleaning one line at a time using a cloth.
I can't help with any final treatment to help the line shoot afterwards but I wouldn't have thought a silicon based treatment would unduly affect the Airflo lines. Perhaps Jock could give you the info for the Monteith line.

I guess that I was just fishing to see whether there was anything out there that had been optimised for the Airflo manufactured lines. I noticed , subsequent to my earlier post, that you can still buy turboshoot from Tightlines direct. Jock M , this could be a new business venture....

I've used Armoural wipes (more Vikings in the world of salmon fuishin') for the last three years on all my floating, multi-tip and shooting lines. Being slightly gung-ho I used them on the Jocky M. I can confirm that after a year the Jocky M is functioning as well as ever. If they were going to have a detrimental effect I am working on the basis I would have seen it by now.
I leave the Armoural in the truck and three or four times a season clean the lines I regularly use with the wipes in the field. Takes about 30 seconds a time, but will put years on your lines as will 'gloving' your reels (not to mention the benefit to the reels of doing this).
Mind you, if I was a true pro like Dr Philgood (or Capn' Fishy) I'd keep a small bottle of cleaner and cloth in the waistcoat and clean my lines once a day. When you think about it it's no real effort, you have to wind in anyway when you come to the end of a pool.
