Hello from Germany, I'm Peter from Hessen and I'm thinking about purchasing a Shakespeare Odyssey 14' 9/10. Which Speyline would be the right one Airflo Tactical Delta Spey 8/9 or Airflo Tactical Delta Spey 9/10 Is a Sh. Glider DT9F a propper alternative? Welcome. Bet your good at penalties Sure What about the Delta Spey Long? The head is about 65' but i think the 8/9 would be better, isn't it? Thanks for reply, Peter

I have the 13' and 15' versions and am reliably informed that they both work best with a 65' head length and head weights as follows 13' = 42g 15' = 50g Which incidentally is the exact head weights of the Partridge IG short head lines which are also made by (I believe) Shakespeare, which is no great shakes as you probably seen that they are well thought of by fellow forum members. 8/9 = 42g 10/11 = 50g They are apparently going to produce complimentary lines for the rods probably due out next year. I know it doesn't get the figures for your 14' but an educated guess would suggest that the 9/10 would best suit. ATB

Well I took the 13'er with me to my local fishery where they have casting platform, just to have a play. Well I'm by no means a good caster but the rod struggled to lift all the 65' head off the water, even with 13' of the rear taper inside the tip could I get near a reasonable roll cast. The rod felt very flexy and soft on the forward stroke and the upstream sweep from the dangle. My only comparison is with the 14' Oracle, with a 55' Windcutter, which I could decent Spey casts out off and no problem with hoiking it upstream, in fact you had to reign it in a bit. I'll have to get onto the line pool to try out the smaller lines, IG, Windcutter 9/10/11 and the Snowbee FYI line used 65' head 45g head weight (surely 3g over the recommended weight wouldn't have that much of a detrimental effect.)

Finally,
I tried the Odyssey with the DT9F and it casts very well. But the Airflo Spey 9/10 rocks really. A great rod and a real bargain!!
Petri and tight lines,
Peter
