Its time for a new wading jacket and can get either the simms rivertek or classic delivered for £145 and would like to know if any members use these jackets and what one would be the better of them.

Madkeen, I managed to get a new Simms G3 Guide jacket in the States earlier in the year for 300 dollars - 150 quid ;D - they go for 3-400 quid here in the UK I'm very pleased with it - warm in the cold and Ok with just a light shirt if its warmer/good storage etc. The only thing I dont like about it is the hood is bit of a pain in dry weather.. Re lastcasts offer - the picture is that of the G3 Guide but at 50 quid doubt very much that its triple layer Gortex though...the last post on flyforums for this appears to be in Jan - no feedback on whether the £50 jackets materialised..

Madkeen,
I Have used a Sasta 64 degrees north thing for the last 4 seasons and it has been impeccable. Its light, breathable, well cut and has excellent pockets etc but as it has a peach finish it is quiet.
It has seen some horrific weather and yet I have been as dry a sticks inside it.If you can still get one then they are great value at the £200 mark
The only thing I'd rather fish in would be a Schoffel wading jacket, but, alas Carlsberg don't make wading jackets, but if they did...........................................!
My only advice on wading jackets is to try them on with all your spring fishing clobber on with a rod in your hand-the undersleeve cut even on the best jacket can leave you short of material when speyacsting and to try to get the best you can as there is no such thing as a cheap wading jacket IMO as, my God when you need one to keep you dry,you really need one to keep you dry.
I wear mine with a Swanndri underneath it in cold weather and it is perfect.

What ho Alan, had a G3 wading jacket for a few years now and love it, had loads of jackets in the past and the only one that came close was the Patagoia SST ,the G3 is a great jacket the only thing against it is the cost.Try Norrises, got mine a lot cheaper just for asking. Pedro.

Does anyone know of a manufacturer who makes a jacket with a built in flotation thingy come life built in ?
I saw someone with one a few weeks ago but didnt catch the make - I know it was pretty expensive/was Gortex but I cannot find one in any of the usual shops/catalogues/web-sites and are they any good vs separate life jacket ??
thanks

I think the firm is called "England" or "English". I am sure I have seen adverts for them in Sportfish web site.

thanks Robbie - had a quick look they only seem to have the standalone England life jackets now..I'll give them a buzz though and see if they know of one built into the wading jacket

Ive just received my vision Ghillie wading jacket £179.00 superbly made plenty of pockets , good hood ,plenty of underarm room , bit surprised by the cuffs though why on earth they don't make the cuffs out of neoprene i dont know because none of them are completely water proof unless they are neoprene ,apart from that its the dogs danglers , oh also got a Whitlock 24 inch net as well , just need the fish now he eh any offers have rod will travel

If you had insisted on paying full price for the jacket and net- and bought them from me- I could have thrown in a days fishing instead of a discount Frank
