These are various Tube fly boxes I am/have used and some comments as to their attributes.
This is a standard Wheatley tube box. there are rows of holes in the "bumpers" that you simply push the tube fly into. This allows a good view of the flies.
Normally there are bumpers in both lid and bottom ( I replaced the bottom with a flat foam). This works very well. It is lightweight, chest pocket sized, but micro tubes will disappear into the holes!. Micros I simply use a hook and place them that way. However not really for T/Dogs. Marks out of 10 ------ 7.
This is a small, square, Wheatly box. Normally comes with flat foam top and bottom. I altered this with "bumpers" from replacement Wheatley foam,
This then took more flies and is a top quality box, however it is awkward in the pocket. Again difficult for T/Dogs Marks out of 10 ---------7
This is a new Scierra tube fly box. I thought this would be the answer to not only normal tube flies, but T/Dogs as well. The wires you can see, are fixed at
one end of the box. The other end is held in place with a bayonet style slot. The bottom section has slotted foam. In practice it was a bit of a nightmare. Up to 5 large T/Dogs could be slid on to each wire, with hooks and whatever stored in the bottom. It may well have just been my particular box, but the wires continually came out of the bayonet slot, often several at one time. Extreme care was needed when wading or you could be watching your flies disapear down river!. Great Idea if it worked. If the wires had stayed where you put them I would have scored it 10. Sadly I will only be giving it 4/10
While strictly not a Tube box, I felt this was worth showing. Simple, shaped, plastic holes take the head of the Waddington, while the hooks simply push into the foam. Sensible size and lightweight. If you like Waddingtons 10/10
Thought this may be of interest to some people
