I will be at the Fair hopefully on the Sunday, so hope to meet up with some of you forum members. I am fishing the Tweed on the Saturday, so hopefully water levels will be good and the sun shines on the Sunday. I believe there are a few days spare for fishing on the Saturday should anyone want to make a weekend of it. Check availability. Go to www.fishtweed.co.uk

Gordon, Do you know the casting comp rules. Is it platform or in the water, left and right arm up or just best cast? Cheers, Springer Scott Mackenzie was asked to set up the rules and as I remember when speaking to him they are as follows: Casting will take place on the Juction Pool. The casts will be made off the prefered shoulder/bank in the water. There will be a qualifying rounds on Saturday with the top 6 in the final on Sunday. Rods will be restricted to 15ft1" and must be off the shelf. The lines are restricted to a diametre of 2.5mm. There will be a time limit and the longest cast within this will be the score for that individual.

120ft plus?
Isn't one of the rio lines that length in the head?

Will be sticking to my trusty 85ft or 95ft carron line off the self, anything longer and you would strugglt to get the whole belly to anchor correctly with the 15fter.
Anything over 2.5mm and you could turn the comp into a brick throwing contest instead of a speycasting one.

The question was, Anyone from the forum going along to the inaugural T&S Tweed Angling Fair? www.tweedanglingfair.co.uk/I plan on going for one day anyway, possibly two. Just seems to not have had much mention and might be quite good I dunno, so making the trek to find out . The question was about who was going to the fair and not what sort of line should I use if I enter the casting competion. It was a genuine question, quite a few replied yes they were which is good to see. Surely if you need to know the rules of the casting competion it should be a new subject.

Kelso here we go ! Irene (my wife) and I drive down on Saturday afternoon to stay the night in a B/B near Kelso, then hit the fair on Sunday morning. I can't think of anything I need to buy there but you guys know there is ALWAYS something to catch the wallet. I'm really looking forward to meeting up with, hopefully, some of you members who will be there. fruin,I know very well your flies will certainly catch fish, you will have to come up with a deadly one for catching them on Kercock,If it is deadly it may well become known as Ally's Kercock Shrimp.

The Upper Tweed Poaching Society (culinary section) will be rafting down to Kelso after Sunday prayers.
The all terrain vehicle will be based on a Spey prototype in built cane as used in the upper Tweed (2" tapering to 1.5") measuring exactly 15foot1" stern to bow lashed together with 2.50000mm solid tungsten hawser as used for the tail end sink ship lines. Bouyancy achieved by 100 gallon diesel drums as used for the "scorched water" night fishing method, with of course Code 22 lead sheet ballast as used for the "plumbate nymph" so popular in the headwaters. Czech mate. Powered by Rangerover Vogue 4.4 pint drive (just as well its downriver then) with refreshments astern mounted on aforesaid RR tailgate (the rusty one - everyone needs their iron). Ex Bristo copter "landing nets" will be stowed below in case of need.
Eh? Casting competition - thought it said rafting competition - ha.
All members shall wear a 1930's brass bodied extendable Hardy Gaff as a lapel broach for easy recognition (this being part of the official uniform) and also shall carry a night lamp when ashore.
See you Sunday then - I'll be the one wearing jeans !
Malcolm
NB an alternative to the genuine lapel will be a carbon fibre 9-iron shaft with a perimeter weighted butchers hook - the "big berther"-. As released in last year's fashion show by the guy with his shell suit in the red Nissan talibanwagon last December. I hear the bailiffs have been issued with US laser guided patriot systems this year - best of luck.

Just back from Kelso and I must say that I found the Fair a bit disappointing with a fairly small number of trade stands (the manufacturers did not seem to be actually selling anything and simply directed prospective purchasers to these stands. The Vision people in response to my inquiry about waders directed me to a stand which did not have my size in stock (I'm a large regular!). I ended up with a few catalogues and not much else. There was some pretty impressive casting going on outside though. If it had not been for the glorious weather which made it a joy to be outdoors in such a lovely setting I might have thought my trip from Edinburgh a bit of waste of time.

Just got back form a day on the Tweed today and we spoke to some people that had been to the fair and had very similar comments. Did not catch any fish but caught the sun big time!
Still looking forward to it though...
