I would be grateful for information as to how a peel-sling is traditionally made and fitted to a wading stick or net.
Thank you.

Hmm, Clydebuilt, I think I'll buy one! It looks too tricky to make myself easily. Thanks for the link.

I don't really like being festooned with lots of straps buckles and velcro bits so for my net I use the dogs lead. Simpler and cheaper than a peel sling. It helps if you have a well trained dog that doesn't need the lead! Tight lines Andy

I also use just a single strap with a large split ring at each end. If the net is carried with the handle uppermost behind the left shoulder you simply have to reach back with the left hand, give a slight upwards jerk and the lower ring slips off releasing the net. There is no possibility of the net slipping or you having to fumble as the handle remains in the hand throughout the operation. The strap cannot fall off the handle end but will get wet.
In order to avoid any hanging loose folds of net mesh getting caught up in bramble etc when walking, I tuck this through the bottom split ring - keeps it nice and tidy and doesn't interfere with the operation of the net at all.
Dave.

Andy, I like the dog lead idea, and Holly Labrador will like it too--she hates being on a lead. She knows how to behave without one, she says!

I bought a gye type net from Mularkeys a while back and they advertised it complete with "peel sling".
Opened the package to find a metre length of shoddy bungee cord (not even notted?). I phoned and then emailed to say this wasn't a 'sling' nor a 'peel sling' and provided examples of what a "peel sling", as per common usage, looks like.
Never even got a reply to my complaint??

I bought a leather peel sling a while back and find it awkward to use on my Sharps Aquarex net. The small ring wont slide on and off the handle and the small plastic snap lock (Not velcro) is very awkward to undo so the dog lead idea seems perfect ;D

Dave did you make the sling yourself or can you buy them with split rings either end ?
