Great looking fish Macsalmo, and a great way to start your season.
Are there a few fish starting to run the Annan now? - not much is being reported on Fishannan.

Thanks fellows, Elwyman, fishannan doesnt seem to report the day to day catches Ive noticed. I know of 2 other springers at newbie and of a couple upstream. Nobody really fishes for them so I dont think you get a true reflection of the spring run. I know I fished twice for them last year on there and caught 1 and have fished once this year and caught 1 also. I think you just have to keep an eye on the river levels and go for it.

the run downstream of the Caul is the best fly water on the Annan it should be they got done for altering the river bed there-so you could say it was designed and built for the fly but nevertheless a fine fish

That's a beautiful looking fish - perfect in every respect.
I envy you having such good Spring/early Summer fishing up there.
Dave.

Thanks to all of you. Springer I was using a fast sink snowbee Scandinavian line with quite a long leader (9') I'd been catching the bottom a bit with a alum. tube and short leader so I put the plastic tube on and extended my leader and voila!
Exerod, There was only myself and a friend on the whole beat. They only charge £25.00 at the mo if there are rods available (which there usually are now). PM me for details.
Ive just heard of another at around 12 lb caught yesterday.

A Springer to be proud of macsalmo, hopefully the first of many BUT , there are'nt many official springer days left. May your good luck continue. Interesting bit about the techniques used too.

Thanks Dennis, Graham and Springer are credited for the technique used I like that method as you get to fish a light fly with lots of movement deeply without hitting the bottom to much.
