I have the 10/11 on which I use a 11/12 Ian Gordon Spey so I wonder why your friend thinks a 10/11 is not a heavy enough line for the 9/10 Norway. Is it possible thats its his casting technique is faulty?

Alan,
The lines i use on mine are:
10/11 Carron, 10/11 IG Inter, 10/11 IG Sinker
They all seem to be a great match with it. However, i was double spey casting today on the Tweed with my intermediate into a bit of a head wind and was really struggling to get the line 'pinging' out - it made me want to try a line size heavier just to compare. I think it was just the nasty wind though that was causing the main prolem.
In terms of the floater (carron) which i use most often i could not fault the match.

Inter is 75 sinker 65.
From what Tony was telling me this week he did not like the Norway that much. He was trying the 10/11 version though which personally i have not used so imagine its a little bit different to mine. I'd be interested to try the 11/12 line on my rod - its amazing how much a nasty wind can complicate things!
Saw quite a few sea trout but they were not interested in anything we cast or through at them. I think the wall to wall sunshine played a part.

I'm sure you tried my 11/12 IG Intermediate down at Merryshields last season. If I remember correctly you were having to strip in an extra 5-10ft past the colour change in order to not overload the rod too much. Still went out very nicely though. Your more than welcome to have another go next time I make it out.
Alan
I thought Tony ended up getting the 10/11 Norway ? If it is the 9/10 and he's finding the 75ft 10/11 Carron JS to light its possible he's stripping in too much of the head before re-casting. I know his favorite/most regular used line last season was the Mach1 which i'm sure had a short head - somewhere around 55ft if I remember correctly. If he's stripping the Carron back into a similar point then its possible it would feel a little on the light side.

I still can't understand why he doesn't just use the RT more often as he seems to like the way it casts. He would be better off putting his millions into a few casting lessons and access to some better water!

Thanks for the lone of the reel and line Alan.
I really like your attachment at the end of the line for tying the cast on - can you give a brief run down of how you do it please?

I use a 22M 10/11 line on my Norway 9/10. The head is only 60` so it may well be a bit short for your needs but it matches the rod well. Perhaps more suitable for beginners (like me).
They used to be obtainable only direct from the factory but now sell on ebay, still for not much money. Do a search for `Redditch fly line` if you are interested.

Sounds quite straight forward and looks really tidy.
Where do you get the shrink tubing from? Frasers?
