I realise that this will be like trying to break the Da Vinci Cide, but can anyone tell me how the don is fishing (particularly Inverurie, Kintore, Alford)? I'm torn between the Tay and the Don tomorrow. If the river level on the Tay rises, then the fishing I can get will be made worse, and, if the Don doesn't rise, then it could be a bit of a wasted journey. Any pointers?

Graham,
Thanks for the speedy response. The tides don't really favour the lower/middle Tay tomorrow, but you never know.
Is it raining in sunny Aberdeenshire?

Graham, Any other recommendations of beats worth a go at present on the aberdeenshire rivers? I'll understand if you are sworn to secrecy

Well, I never ventured to the Dee. I phoned a friend to find out how the water was looking and on his advice and Grahams I opted for the Tay. I fished Upper Redgorton on my PDAA ticket, but the water was a bit higher than I like for this beat. As it is lower on the river than the fish like to hold at this time of year, I was really hoping for a half hour of madness if a decent shoal of fish passed. So, on the right place, right time theory, I hammered the best pools (mainly the Black Craigs) for ten hours, only stopping for a 15 minute lunch. From about 2pm onwards, I had the entire beat to myself, but the fish still managed to slip past me, or maybe they never went through at all Anyway, it's a great beat to fish with the fly and I still enjoyed my day.
