Macd is absolutely correct when he tells you to play around with different methods. I've tried them all, but like the effect of tying the underwing forward and then the overwing as per normal. I also just tie in wings conventionally, which gives a slimmer profile.
It'll be good if he gets them in silver. When I seen the smaller versions I, also, immediately thought of small stoaty type thingmys!

www.rackelhanen.se/eng/10018.htmfruin put this link up- you will find step by step instructions, great site. In the flies shown here the tying is made on the tube liner. The tube itself is shaped like a skittle and keeps the wing up and away from the tube. If I do fold the wing I only do so with the over-wing and usually on a standard cylinder tube. The folded wing on TDs was originally done as they were made on standard tubes. These new ones, particlarly where the tying is on the liner, make this less critical. Tying on the liner is easy: cut a length, burr one end with a flame and insert. Leave a few cm poking out at the head. Mount the tube on a needle and dress the fly. Trim the the liner and burr with a flame and you are in business. A good way of cheating on standard tubes is to tie in some flash material and trim quite short, stick the wing on and it is kept up by the flash……… There is no fixed method, so play around with it until you are happy- try the conventional way first of all If you pm me ill send a sample for you to look at. macd Thanks for that info, Macd. I did look on the site in some detail but couldn't find any step-by-step guide. Whereabouts is it? I have sent you a pm as you suggested. Thanks again AR

Hi there,
Regarding your thread about tubes - did you meet Yuri Shumakov or was it someone else put you onto his tubes.
He stayed here in the borders before fishing the Dee March 5th - 8th. He also sells plastic tubing and transluscent goat hair for tying his style of tubes.
He showed me a fantastic trick with his liner and extension tubing which I'd been trying to figure out for years.
Nice guy.
Regards,
Malcolm McLeman

Tweedcast,
I've never met him, but had seen his tubes some time ago on the internet. Only just got a sample to try them out. I'll see how they go.
