dont buy the veniard fly tube adapter..... its total crap... i got non e from Paul @ Kate Flemings and its utter rubbish for £10!!! I bought the three different tube types and sizes that he had and not one fits properly.... the thinnest version bent as asson as i tried it in the vice!!
No sooner had it failed than i used a paper clip..... and it fitted perfectly! £10 down the tubes!

No doubt you got several hours of Pauls version of help before you did the deal. I thought you knew better.. He is as good with fishing or flytying advice as he was as a river convener, sh*te. Take it back .

My partner gave me some felting needles and lo and behold they were the very same as the HN Needle and they come in different sizes which is handy. Oh, and their about £1 each...what a con Mr Norling Check out: www.thefeltedewe.com/feltingneedles.html as an example... or just google "felting needle"

I notice there are varying gauge sizes for felting needles. Never having tied a tube fly which size(s) would you recommend.

i bought the 'norling needle' to help with plastic tubes. It fits smaller diameter tubing-only. Darning needles are a better bet- cheaper, more useful.

the best needles I found were kilt pins , mother in-law is a kilt-maker. . .the pins are thicker than normal pins and are s/ steel , good and strong.

Weed - Buy a three pack of various sizes. That will cover all tube sizes. I think the Hakan Needle costs about £7.50 - my point is that you can buy a felting needle for £1.50 and it's the very same as the Hakan Needle - no difference execpt for the price

I just spotted the comments about the veniards tube needle that i bought from Kate Flemings the other week! I'm not changing my mind....it's still crap..... but i have to say that it was me that bought it! It wasn't recommended by Paul!! The paper clip is however working great! and its good to use the other end for varnishing heads..... and all for 1p!
As for that felt needle....... that Hakanan has got a cheek!! hahaha hats off to him!

The Veniards attachment is rubbish - as is the HMH attachment.
Needles in whatever form seem much better for all aspects of tying

to be honest....i'm a bit dissapointed with Trout and Salmon...... they did a review on vices and adapters for holding tubes last month... and i bought the veniards on their recommendation....... i quote..... "Its a simple and effective product that works well with plastic and metal tubes.... each pin has a tapered brass end to hold the tube securely" total rubbish!! I have three different makes of tubes.... both brass, copper and aluminium and some of them are made by veniards and not one fits! and as for the brass tapered ends that grip the tube?? your tube would have to be half a centimetre wide at the neck to even get over the end........ If Trout and Salmon can't write an honest review about a £7.50 fly tying tool....... how can i trust their review on a £600 rod ? tut tut Trout and Salmon!

Johnmac - I was disappointed with the hyped "fly-tyers" special edition - mostly rubbish. As for the tube-fly reviews - pointless

Got to agree lads. Norling's needle and frodins stripper's tassles ( turbo cones) are taking the mick. The past few years has been dominated by guideline's marketing push- but I am less than impressed. A lot of UK anglers have fallen for this nonsense. Their rods are top notch but the fly 'innovations' are a lot of bull.
I read frodins piece on the turbo cone and thought to myself- why dont you just spin. Cant repeat my second thought.......

Perhaps his turbo disc fly should be renamed the "Rapala Fly" Still, I went to his demonstration and the flies he tied looked great in and out of his water-machine. I'll be having a go with them tied on my new felting needles

Strood
The discs only fit the X-Small tubing which in turn only fit into the medium tubing so if you want to use the other sizes then you'll need to use at least three sizes to get a tidy fit. In my opinion it would have been better to make three or four kits for different sizes where only two tubes were needed to make one fly.
However, the one I liked best was the micro-tube using the x-small tubing only. They'll be smashing on the Dee and Don from late-April onwards.
