On the fishdee site, etal, with the current low level of catches due to low water level etc. , I have noticed that certain beats showing returns have sometimes salmon AND seatrout catches.
Is this due to the fish being active on a particular beat or a new run of fish or just perhaps due to the ability & skill levels of the fishers on a particular beat ??

With the very low rivers the salmon anglers on some of those fine beats will be switching thare attention to the seatrout with a chance of a salmon at last light or dawn! i remember quite a few years ago spending fruitless day,s on tulchan after salmon in very low water (hopeless) we decided to give the seatrout a go and ended up with over 30 up to 7lbs and five salmon in 2 nights 3 rods GREAT sport!

Thing is Scotview, these beats you mentioned may suit low water or be close to the estuary where some fish may chance sneaking upstream for a bit ,the other thing is wised up anglers will be adjusting their tactics/tackle to suit. Think about it the usual tactics of 15ft er and 10/11 line are a bit brutal for low water drop down to a light line outfit or sea trout outfit and your presentation will be much more delicate/subtle,that with finer nylon and smaller flies. The best times to fish in low water are last/first light just the ticket for sea trout as well as Salmon.Through the day the fast runs and streams offer the best chance of a fish, don't discount using trout sized flies and clear nylon. One fish caught in these conditions when you have to think about your every action can give greater satisfaction than a more easily caught fish in more prolific times.
