thanks - heard mixed reports re GAC but I like the fact that they do demos so i can see some of the techniques first hand before trying. I'll pop down one Sunday and have a look....godd to be able to see the stuff as well before buying.. Some forum members (me included) have had bad times (and good times) with GAC, the common ingredient in all of these is mail order. You should be fine if you go in there in person to get your stuff, whether the gear is in stock (or not) will be immediately apparent, therefore avoiding the pitfalls of online shopping. One piece of advice about fly tying which was offered to me when I started was to buy a few issues of Fly Fishing And Fly Tying magazine. The step by steps (with good advice on how to fish the flee you've just tied) and the materials buying advice seems to be good, the only problem now is that I can't resist buying it every month just for a read .

Thanks Salmondan..
FF & FT is about the only mag I have started buying regularly - been marking articles for salmon and sea trout flies but aim to start on some Stoats tail variants first....wish my birthday would hurry up (I've already bought most of the things I had asked my wife for so have to leave her something to buy!!)
