Alan , I am feeling yirtuous at the moment ,havent killed a fish for some 3 +years , some ten or more years ago I would have kiled most all salmon that I landed , Now every fish is a treasure ,should I hit a huge run of grilse I might take a meal for the family . Yhat would be it ,This is not just salmon ,but most every fish I catch . salmon taste great ,reesser rainbows on daph taste fair ,all other fish ba4r eels that I have caught on flies taste like crud (perch excepted )so I am a tad predjudied!

I fished regularly up to mid June (not at all since as it happens) and didn't meet a soul. If others don't fancy C&R, suits me fine.
Agree with Andy- Perch make good eating.

This brings me to think....... are anglers who wait until the killing season begins true sportsmen? The few that I have had dealings with, they fish the opposite bank to me, are jolly nice chaps and sporting in as much as they don't hog the pools or race you to the good spots. But they just cant bear to put a fish back. What makes this all the more surprising is that they will tell you just how good it was in the 60's and how bad it is now but cant see that the stocks need their help. The thing that is most depressing about your post though is that a fishing club has this "we want to kill springers after June 16th" attitude. I was initially against the C&R before June 16th bylaw but now I would be happy to keep it when it comes up for review. With the attitudes you have highlighted I cant see the EA being keen to relax the bylaw ever. Andy
