The conditions were pitiful, the wind destroyed the casts, often blowing the indicator back 10-15 metres, you could see the loop just hitting the wall, Knut had a particularly tough time with the wind.
The conditions were poor for everyone which is a shame as watching the boys in the heats and through the practices we would probably have seen a distance of well over 60 metres.
Great craic as well!!

Hi to all, not long back from the CLA!! The speycasting was excellently run and on friday, conditions were perfect. this however, was not the case over saturday and sunday with fierce swirling winds. this year, the format was changed and the casts measured in meters, Gordons qualifying cast was 57.5 m (63 yds), and with extremely difficult conditions in the final made an outstanding 44m (48.1 yd) cast. distances in the final were (I think); Gordon Armstrong-44m (48.1 yds) Andrew Toft- 43.5m(47.6yds) Rauiri Costello- 40m(43.7yds) Blair Banks-38.5m(42.1yds) Knut Syrstad-38m(41.6 yds) James Chalmers-36m-(39.4yds)
in all it was a great weekend with the competitions brilliantly run! Thanks to all for the great craic and hospitality, Blair

Thanks to all for your kind words folks.
I just got back to normality over the last few days; it was a very long and tiring weekend, but what a weekend it was, from beginning to end it was first class.
There was so much that went on over the weekend that it would be hard to fit it all in, but a big thanks must go out to Gwyneth and Jimmy Jack for taking us to competitions all over the world during the last two years and providing the best lines money can buy, not to mention providing some memorable laughs along the way. Also James Chalmers the “champion” line designer and tester, without him the evolution of competition casting would not be as it is.
The CLA organisers and judges who made the whole weekend a glowing success, regardless of the force 8 headwinds, top job lads!!!
Also a big hand must also go out to the boys who made it over from Norway and the US, without you boys the competition scene just wouldn’t be the same.
One unofficial competition winner not mentioned was Howel Morgan who won both the tip section distance completion and the no rod distance competition on the Saturday night. How he manages it I don’t know but it was a great fun to watch. The man is a wizard.
Gordon Armstrong
