Hello all. Just some free advertising for my favourite fishing megastore!
Ian Gordon Spey lines now down to £48! wow! It's only 40 quid everywhere else.
Guideline LPxe now just £328.99 wow! I just got one for 80 quid less.
Never ceases to amaze me what they charge in there, they do have a big rent to pay i suppose. ;D

it really does surprise me that people still buy rods and lines there. It's got excellent fly tying stock but when you consider that i got 7 packs of boar bristles for a tenner off the internet and they charge 3 quid for one packet...exactly the same stuff. Frightning really

Mail order is a nightmare. They never send the correct stuff and when they do send it, it takes weeks to arrive from when the order is placed

Perhaps, with their "high" charges, that's why they've chosen to sponsor Nick Hancock's current fishing programme ... to offload some corporation tax as a deductable expense, whilst getting added exposure and publicity. Not a bad business plan me thinks.

Glasogow Angling Centre reminds me of Glasgow Rangers - Sh*te Sorry but I'm just basing this opinion on the three month wait I had to finally receive the wrong stuff!

I go in and look at all the rods, jackets etc.. and then buy them elsewhere at lower prices. I went to buy a rod there a couple of years ago when they did the price match. They refused to match Fawcett's price as it was a Sunday and they couldn't get an answer when they phoned to check if they had the item in stock !! Only stuff I buy there is fly tying stuff, although it was 7 quid for a squirrel tail the other week, so will be looking elsewhere. With teir buying power they should be alot cheaper !!

I always thought their prices were ok (and delivery s***e) but I'm a mug when I see fishing tackle for sale anyway. What's the best mail order company, then?

I have shopped at the GAC a few times...either by mail order or by internet... and i have to say that the prices for the things i've bought were i thought fair...... but on the other hand.... delivery is awful... i waited three weeks for a reel....... two ana a half weeks for some hooks and four weeks for some polyleaders... all of which were allegedlt in stock???
shame on you GAC!! Ive shopped with a few others including John Norris, Reels 'n'delas and e-bay and delivery was just one or two days.... its bad news if you are in a hurry for an item!
As for prices... i see the Oracle IV is still advertised at £90+... i got my to for £68 and £72..... tut tut tut

I'm going to be laughed off this forum. £96 for a 15ft Oracle and, wait for it,..........................£59.95 for a rio windcutter floater. At the time I thought it was about the going rate but I suppose a few of you would say "you've been had!"

GAC - Crap prices, crap service. Only go their if I'm in a hurry for something, as it is only a 20 minute car journey for me. However, hats off to Davie MacPhail - he was very helpful and customer focussed when I spoke to him in their store the other week. I like to try and support the smaller stores that welcome you in and treat the customers like friends. I have heard that certain manufacturers or wholesalers will not stock anybody but the GAC in the Glasgow area, because GAC has threatened to stop using them if they do However, I have no confirmation of that.

i had a fall out with them last year. what was a simple error on their part resulted in my questioning their customer service. The short version was that they suggested i was a liar. Top notch or what. Use your local shop. We all know what superstores have done to smaller shops and Fruin's point about suppliers is simply a reflection of big business sticking it up the wee guy. if going for mail order try frank henderson in turriff and hugo ross in wick: no nonsense, realistic prices and a real knowledge of fishing. Not like the neds i had to deal with Once you go GAC, you'll never go back.

At the time I thought it was about the going rate but I suppose a few of you would say "you've been had!" Me too. I've used them quite a lot over the past couple of years for most of the tackle I use now. Due to where I live, all my local tackle shops (no shortage of them) just seem to stock course gear. Does anybody in West Yorkshire fish with a fly? It appears not, everybody seems to prefer drowning maggots. The nearest I've come to a proper tackle shop is Anglers Choice in Dundee but a quick (250 mile) trip there once a month is not really a viable option . So when GAC put a catalogue in vitually every fishing mag on the shelf it seems like the easiest choice. If anyone can recommend any better mail order/web shops I for one would appreciate it. I will of course check out the ones already mentioned in this thread. Cheers, Dan.

In Yorkshire there are quite a few fly fishing shops www.yga.yorks.com/www.nwac.co.uk/there is a fly fishing shop in Harrogate that I know of. Sportfish, John Norris, Waderson etc to name a few, the list goes on and on with good tackle shops, I am not connected to any of the mentioned shops. I have used GAC like many on here and I too won't be using them again
