More self inflicted WAC woe Mein Fuishies. BTW where is this mythical place GAC?...everyone to the East of Eden (aka to the right of Harthill Services) knows, with good reason, it is called the Weggie Angling Centre aka the WAC Ever since I saw them at the Kelso Fair last April I've meant to tie up some Frodin Fluffy Things with the World War 1 helmet. BTW (2) Frodin is a little cheeky to say he pioneered keel weighting and movement. The Watsonian Posse were using rabbit strip Mahican (last of) tubes keel weighted towards the head so give a level presentation and added movement 20 years ago. To prove it, legendary writer Robbie MacScrabble wrote an article about it in 1988 in seminal fishing journal 'Practical Game Fishing' (don't remember it, and call yer sel's slamon fuishiers !)...nothing new in showbiz or marketing B/S world then. So after a few too many glasses of Chateau Buckfast I ordered the materials from said WAC. Having spent the equivalent of the cost of one hour fishing Junction in late October (yes that much ) I was expecting bounteous quantities of materials. Well here's the rub - if you want to spend a King's ransom on a postage stamp's worth of "Templedog Hair" and mini Ostrich plumes (abysmally dyed) then shop by phone or net at the WAC. Or if you are feeling cold simply light a £5 note to keep warm and you will have had more value than spendin' it there. I suppose there is no fool like an old fool (and I'm only middle aged, hence doomed in only a few years) to fall for the Frodin fly tying hype machine...like Mellie Mel's 'White Lines' (and also Hugh Falkus sinking ones) don't do it. Remember, you can take the WAC out of the Barras, but you can't take the Barras out of the WAC - you have been warned Later fuishies as I have to go and sell one of my vital organs to settle my dues to the WAC for a couple of feathers CLaG P.S. Mind you, the WAC are currently quoting £10 per fly tied bespoke for this particulary beastie. Jeez...I'm givin' up the day job to tie these. Who will save my vital organs and offer me £7.50 per flee? pps. naturally the order took 2 weeks to get here and three items are on back order despite a special request for them not to send anything until the whole order was available to dispatch

Hi CLaG, I did put up a link to a site for cheaper Ostrich Feathers on one of the other threads which are far better value for money and come in a load of good colours www.ostrichesonline.co.uk/The smaller drabs appear to be the best bet.

GAC UPDATE. Forget the fishing tackle guys , spend your hard earned dosh in the Chinese restaurant next door. It's the only value for money establishment in that retail park and it's always a good sign when it's full of the correct ethnic minority. And I don't mean Possilonians. ;DThe business lunch would even satisfy Rab Ha'. Only it's dim sum , not pies! Well worth a visit.

Did you go fishing in the Chinese supermarket, they have some lovely live dogfish ;D I often wondered if these tanks of live fish are the casting pools of the Great Rip off Centre

Didn't go inside the supermarket. Couldn't stand the pong of dried fish. I've spent years in the Merchant navy and the smell brought back memories of the Chinese crew drying the handline caught fish by hanging them up in their thousands round their poopdeck accomodation . Never did understand how they could put up with it. Fiendishly cunning the Chinese. Maybe P.D has taken lessons from them about his prices. ;D

When someone goes to the gac on a sunday and some thing you are after say is advertised cheaper in one of the fishing magazines with another dealer, they say we will have to give them a call to see if thats the right price. Thats ok, if the other dealer is opened on a Sunday, which they probably are not , so its goodbye to that bargain you thought you were going to get....! ps. look at the guideline le cie 14'8" 10/11.£398-99.on guideline web.£450-99,GAC.

A mate of mine has never paid the full price of any rod from GAC yet, he always gets asked to make an offer, and its usually accepted. Nae bad eh. PS, when i run short of Emu feathers they always say they have none, yet they say that they are not good sellers. Its black ones i use all the time, i use them on a wet'n'dry fly...!

In Yorkshire there are quite a few fly fishing shops www.yga.yorks.com/www.nwac.co.uk/there is a fly fishing shop in Harrogate that I know of. Sportfish, John Norris, Waderson etc to name a few, the list goes on and on with good tackle shops, I am not connected to any of the mentioned shops. I have used GAC like many on here and I too won't be using them again Completely agree. Its sad, but when Sportsfish, Chuck Norris and Fawcett's can knock spots of the WAC, or should that now be the WROC, then why should we shop there? Factor in eBay and on line sales in general and they should be worried. The thing is, I wouldn't mind paying the price premium if they had a service ethic but they seem to offer neither. Big mistake in any business in 2007 when the customer is king. Er that will be apart from leasing salmon fishing off course.... Splash
