Hi There elwyman, I have the Pentax Optio W20 not sure of the difference between that & the W30. The picture quality for me is excellent. Perhaps it does not have the best zoom if you are taking photos at any distance but for what it is it is ideal for fishing given the type of photo I hope to take. Having drowned a camera in the past. The waterproof feature is ideal. The underwater video & pictures are great too. I did have some underwater pics & vid but the girlfriend managed to delete them otherwise I would have posted them. I will get some pictures & post them for all to see the quality. Overall I am very happy with mine & no need to worry about taking a dip when fishing. Cheers Graeme

Thanks Simmo, I look forward to seeing some photos. Gary - check out prices of cameras on ebay, I came across a couple of cameras that sounded good from reviews, and there were some big savings on ebay. This site has some useful reviews: www.cameras.co.uk/camera-reviews/panasonic-dmc-fx01.cfmThe panasonic camera seems good, and sells for about £140 on ebay, incl 2mb memory cards. The other option is to get a decent camera phone!

Cheers John, I'm after something very compact, very simple and takes quality mainly close up photo's. Does something exist for under £200.00 Gary

Photo. This is with an Optio W10 which is 6 megapixels the Optio W20 is 7 mega pixels so what the W30 is I dont know there is very little difference between the 10 & 20. I just bought the W20 for around £180 mark with a 2 gig card & a pouch to keep it in. Incase your wondering the reason I got the W20 is because the W10 was a shared camera. Cheers Graeme Fly caught Mullet around the 7.5 lb mark. ;D

Nice pic Simmo, and even nicer fish - and I always thought mullet would only take small flies.
To help make my mind up, an underwater photo of a Frodin turbo disc fly would be useful. ;D

Thanks elwyman. Tried just about everything for the mullet that one took a sea trout sunk lure in the end. Some of the bigger mullet will chase lures. Very difficult fish on fly though but thats the challenge. I did have a good vid of a Salmon parr underwater but lost that one. Not out on the river until the 9th & back the following week if you can wait that long for some underwater pics & vids. You would need to send me the Frodin turbo cone though Cheers Graeme

Frodin turbo cones are almost as expensive as cameras!
I'm away myself on the 9th for a week's fishing, tightlines.

To get back to cameras - I have an olympus MJu 720SW and find it great for fishing with - it is a 7.1 megapixel camera so more than good enough for snapshots but possibly more usefully it is waterproof to 1.5 mtrs and shockproof. Its very compact too. I think that Olympus have recently upgraded the range and not the cameras are waterproof to 10 mtrs (MJU 730)
I am happy with it.

Duncan, it's a good camera, packed with features and as you say waterproof (too many fishing holidays for me have had few photos as the camera misted up after either a rainstorm or a swim, no matter how brief), but the only thing that is stopping me from buying one (as I too am in the market) is the fact that in bright daylight I cannot see anything in the screen. Have you found a solution?

Should of thought of that....! So it's a sea trout camera which is also useful for nightime parties. Very handy on a day like today then...

I recently bought an Optio W20 having managed to trash a couple of digital camera's when falling in (hence my forum moniker) Its an excellent fishing camera 7mp and great image quality. Like all compacts the zoom at 3x is limited but for geral fishing pics this is no real problem. It really is fully waterproof not just splashproof (which wasn't) like my previous Nikon and will take full underwater shots in the salt. Its only real limitation as a fishing camera is the lack of an optical zoom which makes it difficult to compose pictures on very bright days. It will also shoot underwater video. The picture shown was taken after being battered by breakers for over an hour in the surf at St Francois lagoon in the Seychelles. You also need to watch the set up as its intuitive to delete photos as the default but this is easily overcome Highly recommended Splash [/img]

I've found the answer. Buy any camera you like and go to Waterproofcases.net and buy a cheap ($29) waterproof camera case that even allows you to snap under water.
Happy snapping
