Anything to do with Laurel & Hardy. The Marx's Bros a must. Every Which Way But Loose. A Fist Full Of Dollars and all the rest. Bruce Lee films. Star Wars trilogy. Close Encounters. The Last Star Fighter. The Last Of The Mohican's. Braveheart. Blazing Saddles. Gone Fishing. The Breakfast Club. Many that have been mentioned and many that have not. My ideal viewing would be Laurel & Hardy followed by the Marx Bros.

Surprise omission so far, A River Runs Through It - superb Montana scenery and some fly fishing as well!

I like a lot of John Wayne films especially westerns with him and Dean Martin in tow, I also like gangster films like Casino, Scarface, Once upon a time in America, the Godfather, and James Cagney films. Sleepers is another one worth watching and of course the Warriors, the one about the NY gangs. One of my all time favourite has to be Zulu. I do like non violent films as well I just can't think of any at the minute . AA

[quote author=elwyman board=offtopicthreads thread=1177263404 post=1177349427 Funny that nobody has mentioned The Shining, I think it was voted best film in a recent poll?[/quote]
The "Great British public" and "Polls" about their opinion of the best films of all time always throw up the same result - the last blockbuster they saw........ viz the poll of the best film of all time taken to mark the millennium - and the winner was.... Titanic! 'nuff said (as the Sunday Post might say).
There is no doubt about it, Duck Soup - no question.

Am I the only one that likes "the Negotiator"? Not at all Gary. It's my favourite film.

The Quiet Man - wasn't Miss O'Hara hottttt? Absolutely anything with Alec Guinness - Master at work. Rebecca/ Brief Encounter - B/W masterpieces. Bridges of Madisson County - Don't talk to me about self denial. This say's it all. Doctor at Sea - JRJ has been my role model these past 30 years. The Ghost and Mrs Muir - Ditto The Cruel Sea - Awesome , and something that our Burberry clad neds should be tied down and forced to watch. Unforgiven - Western genre at it's best. Lord of the Rings - Need I say more.

Last night I watched Road to Perdition starring Tom Hanks - superb Outstanding direction and sound. Did anyone else get so drawn into the story that they felt sorry when Hanks character got the bullet ?

ibm59, Of all the war films that i have ever saw, thats was the first time i had ever saw a "sticky bomb" being used. Its in the manual he said, maybe it was.Tom Hanks is a bit like Robert Redford, they both never seem to make bad films. And anyone who has never had the chance to see Redford in "Bruebaker", i dont know if its still availiable on video, but sometimes it gets a re-run on the tele, all based on fact and what went on in the southern american prisons. The first time i saw it i was working at scott lithgow at port glasgow and we were on the early shift 6-2, the film did'nt come on till 11pm STV, and as my driver said it was one of those films you just could'nt leave until it was done, we slept in, but still made it.
