I realise how lucky/fortunate I am to be able to experience such wonderful wilderness fishing in a foreign land. 3 hours in a helicopter from Murmansk ? My father never even stepped foot on an aeroplane or went abroad in his lifetime. He passed away in the seventies but I often wonder what he would say..........

Awesome fishing Jim. Do you attend the gym before you go I have a friend there this week, so I guess I'll be hearing more of the same. Did you fish bombers yourself? It's an exciting way to fish. I'm sure I'd love the experience but I do prefer more of a challenge....hence I'm going to Norway next week ;D Just read some of the Kola river reports on Lax-a.is (Baldersson's) website. Awesome is the only word to describe it.....6 x 30+lbers in one day plus a load more in the 15-20lbs class.

Yeah, i talked to Arni at Murmansk airport on Saturday. Last week 145 fish , half over twenty, loads of thirties and three forties!
Shame that the fishing is from rubber dinghys- Not my ideal scenario, but if they keep catching monsters at that rate, I may overcome my prejudices!

Great pictures and report Jim. I doubt you could match those figures in our rivers fishing with a monofilament net.

Unbelievable amount of fish caught . Like Macd i would also love to get out there. I certainly do not think i would get sick of hearing my reel time after time and the feel of a fish. Mon the Lottery. What is the cost of one of these trips. Fruin, like it. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D. Hornet

No gym but I make sure I do Pilates stretching exercises in the weeks leading up to the trip. Keeps the muscles limber and I must say I had very little muscle ache in comparison to the first time I went out there. One of my mates is booked to go to the Kola River next year and has asked me to go with him. I think I could be tempted !

Fished the Tweed at The Lees this morning and had an 8 pound fish on a size 11 Katy D fished on a floating line by 10.30am. That unexpected low water fish must be worth at least 10 Russian fish !

So how much is a week on the varzuga??? Your earlier estimate is on the money. The secret is to get a late cancellation and negotiate. Two of my three trips to Russia were by that method.

On Tuesday evening I was fishing for seatrout on a beat of the Tweed near Norham. The fish were veeing past you up the pool and before the light went you could actually see the seatrout swimming through the clear water. It was not a great night for fishing but a lucky guy from edinburgh got a stonker of over 8 pounds. It gave him quite a tussle on the singlehander....... sorry this has nothing to do with Russia.
