I've not long bought a Sharps Gordon 15ft fly rod and I'm quite pleased with it!
What does niggle me is the amount of filling in parts of the cork handle especialy near the top of the handle which I can feel every time I use the rod.
Now I've been flyfishing since a young boy and the first fly rod I bought was a Sharps Scotty 9ft cane rod and I still have it.
I've owned lots of rods in my time and I've always thought of Sharps as one of the top rod makers but I must say I'm a little bit disappointed in the finish of the Sharps Gordon double hander or am I being to fussy!

there is a thread on the f&f boards which indicates that sharpes are allegedly in the hands of the receivers now - and some discussion on whether the lifetime warranties will be honoured by a potential new owner - slightly worrying if you have a gordon.

JAD, Sharpes have long since joined most of the UK firms that have their rods made in the far east. This is reflected in the quality of finnish. Ive seen identical rods with one cork much better than the other, filler is very common in high percentages now I would like to see a maker adopt a 100% cork composite handle as these seem to wear much better. The only decent cork I can remember seeing is Hardy's, just a shame the rods are crap. I agree. I think that is most likely the problem the rods are made in the far east and not checked properly when they come into the UK. Its a shame really because the small bit of filling in the top of the cork handle lets an otherwise well made rod down. I have a Greys GRX 14ft which I bought as my first double hander and it was half of the price of the Sharps Gordon and the finnish is perfect. I'm going to start saving my pennies so I can treat myself to a B & W. Which one I don't know
