How did you get on at Farleyer Upper? A party of us had a "blow the cobwebs away" day at Waukmill today. We fished the Goldcastle (lower) part of the beat and the conditions were hardly for us. With a lot of snow melt from the previous day, the river started of high and dirty; that kind of milky tea colour The wind was very gusty and the river continued rising for a time, but started to clear too late, about 4pm. Not a thing caught, but nice to get out on the river again. It was nice to meet with fellow fishers and familiar faces, and I also had the pleasure of meeting our very own forum regular Altmor; good to meet you and chat about the addictive qualities of this forum ;D Let us all pray for some hard frosts to drop the river in good time.

What a fabulous start to somebody's season.
Bet it was caught on a spinner.
I see it was caught on the Tummel just below the dam - report from sea trout forum says:
"We have him.......a January springer.....new club member Donnie Whiteford opened his account on the Tummel, today, with a belter of a fish. 25.5lbs and sparkling fresh it was his biggest salmon so far and he managed to return it in good order. Fishing down Portnacraig he told me that he had seen a fish moving, covered it and....bang. I have a sneaking suspicion that some of the older members might be dusting down their rods for an early season foray. Innes"

Likewise Fruin, good to be out, but by gaud it wasn't half cold on that boat in the afternoon - I've just thawed out - hence the delay in turning on the computer - the fingers are just about there. ;D Hope to catch up with you again, and other forum members too throughout this season. May the rivers be stuffed and your rods be bent.

I've booked my first day on the Tay today - Dunkeld House on the 24th for £70 (eeek!).
Will I need the cutlery or can I swing through a fly - any advice much appreciated.

Take both. You can then decide upon the water you are fishing. If the water is high you can spin if a good height you could fish a fly through the pools. Both angles covered!!!!!
