Got a few days on the last week of August/first week of September coming up. Has anybody fished or surveyed this beat? Looks like its mostly flat water, hopefully there's some slightly streamier fly water (I fish the Spey mostly so not used to canals!). Thanks, Oscar

Some friends fished there in the spring.
It is a high water beat and apparently just does not fish when flows are low. Classic example is 2003 when they only had 2 fish by November. On the other hand in 2004 when flows were good they had 42 fish in August alone.
I was very tempted as it seemed good value for the position on the river. Was put off in the end as I thought it would lack fly water.
Would be interested to here back from your visit.

Thanks Andrew. Yeah we talked to the Ghillie who admitted that its a high water beat, but since we're having good water this year it could be a decent bet. Also looks like theres a bit of streamy water at the bottom for the fly, and i've had good success recently with stripping in slack water so not too put off by this.
Will write a full report (hopefully including some fesh!) when i get back.

So the tweed is a canal, then why bother coming. Its a pity you didnt do your homework before- hand. I pass this beat ever morning going to work and i can tell you, no i wont bother, seen as your so quick to slate this beat. Good tip, why dont you fish the spey!

I think you over-exaggerated a bit there. I've fished the Middle Tweed at Dryburgh which has some lovely fly water, and I know there are some bits on the Lower Tweed which are also good for the fly. But this beat is renowned for being a high water beat and there's a lot of slack, canal-like water when the levels drop - this is what the ghillie told us. Didn't mean to say the whole Tweed is a canal!
