Gary, Newbie looks like it will still fish with the higher water but if the colour is still like Caramac (anyone remember that?) then the spinning rod would be your best chance, if at all If I think the fish can see the fly, then I dont mind how high the level is. Good Luck They see it alright alan. Taking it.....well I remember caramac- 5p well spent

What about numbers guys? Are most salmon taken on a spinner? Twice as many as are caught on fly....three times as many?....more???(not forgetting worm) Cheers Wester Elchies figures for this year 387 salmon caught 78% returned, 373 caught on the fly 14 caught on the spinner. 3.61% restricted to 5 of the 33 weeks of the season, most of the anglers prefer to stick to the fly, not surprising really considering it has the best fly water in Scotland. (check Ashley Cooper if you do not believe me)

Good point macsalmo ,I am on the Annan saturday and am looking at the water rising ,I wiil have to make a decision whether it is worth the two hour drive on saturday morning ,or stay in bed and possibly have a sh@g with or without my socks on ;D me too - booked in for Saturday and not relishing the 2 hour drive from Dunbar to find water at 5ft. But should be ok at top of river.

Vintage stuff from Willie G. I once got my leg over with flippers on. Fly all the way for me, its much more fun and for me more effective. You can grow and develop your flyfishing but I guess its every man to his own pleasure. (pass me another frog).

Firstly I would like to apologies to Mr IainJay. Your thread has got slightly side tracked Im afraid I cannot help you with the percentages Iain. I did find the banter very funny though ;D especially with the awkward stuff at the mo. Sorry Iain, ATB Gary

Gary,no problem,I enjoyed the banter more as well. I,m so determined to stick with the fly but was begining to get pretty envious of fish after fish being caught all around me by other methods....Next year tho.....
Cheers
