Never fished the Thurso in May SalmonKing, so can't assist on this river, but a good friend has this year aquired the River Ewe. If you are planning your trip up to the top of Scotland, I could make enquiries with him as to availability in May for a day or two/three. I'm normally up on the Ewe at the end of June and although this year was 'slow', it is a good, improving North West coast river with the freshest running Salmon I've ever come across. Just let me know if this is of any interest for your pending trip.

Don't want to seem unfair Salmonking but if you know it's booked, then why are you enquiring? Don't worry I've got a cold and it's probably me being obtuse! : (

The Wick might also be worth a look. I've not fished it and it looks terribly dull in low water, I think it only drops a few feet between Loch Watten and the sea, a lot of backing up I would think. I think the Halladale is fully booked, I'm waiting to hear back about the second week in May, so get in the queue behind me While we are talking about the 'top right hand corner' does anybody know anything about the Badanloch water on the Helmsdale, the bit between Loch Badanloch and Loch Achnamoine. It's available on a day ticket apparently. Would it be worth a cast in May or is it one of those bits of water that fish never stop in? Andy

How much do ghillies get paid? Or just be a gofor. Might it be worth giving up the day job to carry a few fishing rods around for you lot.................lol All this money floating around to go fishing.

I been reading a Bill Currie book and like the sound of the Helmsdale. Is it more accessible now, or is it just the club water that's available?

Its possible to get on in the early spring, becomes less accessible from April. I think BC would have been fishing in Feb/March
If the water is low the club water will produce. I got 2 one april when it was very low and using 10s and 12s. but that was a while back, betanut's links to ron sutherland is best bet

Thanks Ross - yes BC was talking about fishing at the start of the season, and the weather always seemed to be atrocious, but he caught the odd fish.
