Been fishing today (sadly not for Salmon) on Yorkshires River Nidd, lovely day out seen Snowdrops on the bank,Daffs. poking their heads out in gardens and had a Red Admiral Butterfly fluttering about in the sunshine. Now main thing is a really big bird of prey came overhead quite high hugging the rivers contours and for a while all I could make out was its large size and white underside (struggled to get a good view against a clear sky).First thoughts were an Osprey now its early for them but tell the butterfly its early, wandered up and down the bank for a while trying to get a good view and eventually saw its colouration properly, its wings were white ish with black tips but its underbody was a light red ish its tail was like a Sea Trouts very defined, small head.Seen loads of Buzzards (not this one),and this looked bigger, seen Ospreys loads of times on the Tay,Spey, and on my then local Anglers Country Park near Wakefield where they would come to feed when it was quiet then returning to roost at Waterton Park, all during their spring migration north.Another angler on the bank thought it was a Hen Harrier,my thoughts were an immature osprey?.Don't know a lot about birds(feathered ones) but this bird did behave like the Ospreys I have seen. Any more clued up people put me out of my curiosity?. Pedro.
