Just revieved an email from a good friend asking me if i have heard anything about a 50lb salmon being caught on the lower N Tyne!
Sounds like chat to me, although his source was from someone at Hardys in Alnwick.
Think someone has had a dram too many before fishing!

I have just been told about a member of our club having all 3 hooks on their treble hook boing straightened by a huge fish on the Tyne before it headed off towards the sea. I don't know the person in questin but i know who they were fishing with and he doesn't tell any porkies so there could well be some very large fish about.

It is no secret that the Tyne certainly has some larger than average fish. The Tyne record which was set in 02' i think was a fish of 44lb's on fly off the south Tyne. I fished a few times with the chap that tailed it out for him so heard the story first hand. Also in 2002 there were a number of fish caught over 30lbs in October one of which was 36-38 i believe.
Last year there was a springer of 30lbs off Bywell in March by Douglas Beverage (some may have met him at Park?). So far this year there has also been a fish of 25lbs caught.

Andrew
Nearly put the car off the A9 this morning when you sent me the text, thought for a moment you had a 50lber.

I would have done the same! I'm sure its a load of rubbish but i thought i'd post it as it just shows how fish sizes can get so blown out of proportion. If the fish even existed in the first place?
